Accepted articles are published online as soon as they complete copyediting and galley proof approval — ahead of formal issue assignment. Each article receives a DOI via Crossref upon online-first publication. Articles are later assigned to a volume and issue when the issue is formally closed. This ensures the shortest possible time between acceptance and public availability of research.
